Iron is an essential trace element that is required for the formation of haemoglobin and myoglobin: important components of the blood that carry oxygen around the body. Inorganic metal particles such as iron, when they come into contact with the acidic environment of the stomach, can become insoluble and clump together. This both reduces the amount that can be absorbed as well as causing damage to the gastrointestinal walls. In this product, this is reduced through the use of a 'chelate', which is a substance that binds to the metal and 'protects' it from the usual changes that occur in acid. This allows the iron to more effectively travel into the blood stream while also lessening the side effects.

One capsule per day taken with food. FAB Iron and B Complex Capsules are safe to give during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The absorption of iron can be adversely affected when given with tea, coffee, eggs, milk, calcium supplements, whole grain breads, cereals and pastas, and antacids. Concurrent administration of ascorbic acid can increase iron absorption.
